Liv Koh
ghost month

Last week was the end of Ghost Month, the 7th month of the Chinese lunar calendar (the Ghost Festival is on the 15th night of the 7th month), where the deceased visit the living. My aunty reminds me and I hastily get together some food for my visiting relatives (do they make it over all that ocean?). The burning of paper objects is believed to transport them to the afterlife (similarly, joss sticks create a portal for items such as good to travel). Specialty shops sell a range of objects you might need, toothpaste, a cooker-set, shoes and clothes, cars, credit cards, as well as the traditional paper money. These burning images (sense-images?) are a portal to another world.

I’m sure we’re taller in another dimension
You say we’re small and not worth the mention
You’re tired of movin’, your body’s achin’
We could vacay, there’s places to go
